What are hemorrhoids, and how do I know if I have them?

Hemorrhoids are swollen veins in the lower rectum or anus, causing discomfort, itching, pain, or bleeding during bowel movements.

If you experience persistent pain, bleeding, or if home remedies haven’t worked after a week, it’s time to consult a specialist.

Treatment options range from home remedies (creams, sitz baths) to minimally invasive procedures like rubber band ligation, sclerotherapy, and laser treatment.

Minimally invasive treatments are designed to be quick and cause little to no pain, with most patients returning to normal activities the same day. One of the most effective treatments we offer is Infrared Coagulation (IRC). IRC is a non-surgical procedure that uses infrared light to shrink hemorrhoids by cutting off their blood supply. This treatment is virtually pain free and requires no anesthesia.  The recovery is also very fast which makes it an excellent option for those seeking relief without discomfort.

Recovery depends on the procedure but is usually quick. Minimally invasive treatments often require little to no downtime.

With proper care and lifestyle changes (e.g., fiber intake, hydration, and regular exercise), recurrence can be minimized.

Most insurance plans cover hemorrhoid treatments, especially if they are medically necessary. Check with your provider for specific coverage details.

While hemorrhoids are usually not dangerous, chronic bleeding or pain should be evaluated to rule out other conditions like colorectal cancer.

No, many severe cases can be treated with minimally invasive procedures before considering surgery.

Maintain a high-fiber diet, stay hydrated, avoid straining during bowel movements, and get regular exercise.
